New COST Action: Biomedical Applications of Atmospheric Pressure Plasma Technology

Plasma HandProfessor Miles Turner, Director, National Centre for Plasma Science & Technology has announced that the Centre has been awarded funding under the COST (European Cooperation in Science & Technology) scheme for its research network entitled "BioPlasma & Medical Applications of Atmospheric Pressure Plasma Technology".  The new network will be launched in Autumn 2011 and includes 16 partner countries across Europe including Belgium, Switzerland, German, Spain, France, Greence, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Turkey and the UK.

This network is an interdisciplinary research initiative involving clinician, biologists, chemists, physicists and industrialist who will now work together to develop plasma technologies which can be used to offer enhanced quality of care at a reduced cost.

It is envisaged that plasma technology will be effective for applications such as reducing infection, enhancing the speed of wound healing and cancer treatment.
